Description
Great  Old  Cast Iron ceiling fan for restoration. We listed as a Robbins and Meyers because of the Brass information  label which turned out to be something POSSIBLY added along the way somewhere . The Ebay community  gave me HECK about the Robbins and Meyers aspect. Well, after numerous emails, some posted and some not, it seems possible I was right in the first place. I thought it was weird that someone would switch the tag so long ago it was all covered with tobacco tar and crud, but I changed the listing because so many people told me the info I posted was not kosher. WELL I just got another email TODAY telling me MAYBE I was right because Robbins and Meyers made fans under a 1893 patent belonging to Westinghouse, and the brass tag on a fan made by Robbins and Meyers under a Westinghouse Patent would read "owners of original patent", as does MY tag. I will repost tag photos if I have time. I am also NOT, I repeat NOT, going to remove this tag and sell it seperately since there now seems to be good reason to think it is the original tag and is original to the  item and the fan WAS made by Robbins and Meyers under the Westinghouse Patent. Also it seems likely that the item was made 10 to 20 years earlier than the Ebay pundits have maintained. I suppose what one would have to do is research when Westinghouse started the manufacture of these under their OWN label AFTER  Robbins and Meyers stopped making them   to come up with the latest date possible for a Robbins and Meyers tagged fan. Please take a look at some of the email I have Posted on this listing and make up your OWN mind about  WHO,  WHAT,  WHEN ,  ETC.  Fancy iron work , armature turns freely, we have all four paddle brackets. What you see is what we have! Removed from service in an old barber shop sometime in the 1960's ,and stored ever since. We removed all the light surface rust to see what the detail would look like, and in doing so we discovered this fan may have had a copper plating as some of the plate remains. No heavy rust pits, this cleaned up nice with 98% of the detail , even the light stippling decoration. This would look fantastic re-plated and restored! Missing only 2 of the paddle bolts, and all the paddles are damaged beyond fixing, but this would be an easy fix since they are only thin Poplar Wood sheets, easily purchased. There is one blade intact enough to use as a template for the others. Switch for turning fan on is heavily damaged, but I would guess this would be an easy replacement from an electrical company that deals in vintage parts. Item is sold as is for a restoration project. I would prefer that this item be picked up locally due to the weight, but will ship if need be. Item weighs 45 pounds without the paddles so shipping weight would be 65 pounds. I prefer buyer use Craters and Freighters as the shipper, as I will not crate this. I can put in a heavy duty cardboard box, but I won't build a crate. Craters and Freighters are experts at world wide shipping  of antiques and other items most shippers shy away from, and I have had very good luck with them. Google them up before you bid!
